Rohirric Ruffian

Here’s another sort of Viking-inspired outfit, this time with a distinctly Rohirric twist. The helm and gloves are both from Rohirrim cosmetic sets. It also gave me a chance to try out the Snowbeast warsteed set, which I’d gotten for myself last Christmas but haven’t really used. The outfit is very much supposed to feel like a scrapped together set.

Ironically (or perhaps unironically if the outfit is supposed to be scrapped together??) it’s actually my high elf modeling this outfit. I think my thought process was supposed to be somewhat along the lines of, “what if my elf huntress went to Rohan and decided to immerse herself in the culture?” I’m not sure the finished product reflects that so much…by the time I finished it I actually had this narrative of a daughter of one of the horse lords who wanted to take up her father’s sword after he died, but had to scrap together her own armor and weapons to do so.

Something slew this orc…we should investigate!

I actually really had fun with this outfit. I don’t know why…It’s just fun. And less “put together” than what I normally strive for.

I like that you can just see my bear cup poking out between my legs. Like it’s ready to attack, but not ready enough to go out in front lol

I think going forward I want to make more of these “pieced together” looks. They’re really fun 🙂 It’s like organized chaos. My favorite kind of chaos (and organization, if I’m being honest).

Ice Queen

Okay, I think this is my last winter outfit for a while. Especially since today is the last day of Yule Festival! And since I’ve done a Yule Princess and Snowflake post, I figured this time I’d go straight for Ice.

I actually have a couple color variations for this outfit, but this one is probably my favorite. I say probably because I’m really not sure. I just like all of them.

So anyways, this outfit started because I really wanted to use the snowflake gown, but didn’t think it actually went well enough with the cloak of flurries. Mainly because the cloak is extremely iridescent, whereas the dress is only slightly so. Then I remembered the bridal veil from midsummer festival, and thought to myself, “huh…”

Now, to preface some of the night photos, I’ve been having trouble with my in-game personal lantern. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t. It worked fine for my ice-flower light blue outfit, but for some reason it didn’t work for this one, even though I took photos at the same place in game at the same time in game.

Luckily the Northern Lights were out in Forochel, so that helped.

Okay, so that’s the first variation. The second one is an all white outfit:

I like this one a lot too. Also, this one pairs really well with a warsteed, so that’s a bonus:

Just ignore how the dress clips through the horse’s belly. Lord knows that’s what I do.

No I don’t see any clipping issues. I have no idea what you’re talking about.

I also experimented a bit with different halters/saddles, and found that it was really flexible.

And, whereas the blue version of this outfit looked really good at night with the Northern Lights, I found the golden tint to the white version makes it go really well with sunsets:

Then the last color variation is a black one, mostly because I really wanted to see how the bridal veil would look dyed black. It looks really cool by the way, though this is probably my least favorite outfit of the three:

Snowflake

So I have been STRUGGLING to put together an outfit around the Cloak of Flurries. Like, REALLY struggling. This is…what I have come up with?

I have mixed feelings about it, tbh. From some angles, it looks amazing. From other angles, I feel kind of…meh.

And then some things about it are simultaneously great and awful. Like the shoulders I ended up using have this star-like metallic design on them, which is amazing. And in the center there’s a gem which can be dyed blue. Again, amazing. But they also have this flap of fabric that’s an undyable yellow color. Not so amazing.

The yellowish actually does sort of match the yellow tint to the tunic when dyed white, and I think thematically it works in that snow sometimes gets stained with dirt or whatever. But personally? I wish it was pure white. But I also LOVE the tunic, because it has these iridescent(ish) blue designs that really resemble the design of the cloak.

Also, I generally don’t like outfits with a lot of harsh lines, and this outfit is chalk-full of them. BUT, snowflakes are also frozen water crystals. If you’ve ever googled a snowflake up close, you know they’re not these smooth, curved things. They’re angular and full of lines and shapes. You can even see this on the Cloak of Flurries. So again, that works, it’s just a personal thing.

The shoulder designs also do really go with the tunic.

So yeah, in some ways I LOVE the outfit, and in others it’s just not QUITE right. It really comes down to the fact that I think the shoulders and the tunic are the perfect design, they just have some issues with dye. I did try dying the tunic belegaer blue to see if that would fix it, but it didn’t look quite right in my opinion.

Although, I don’t know…maybe it definitely looks cool…just maybe less like a snowflake?

It also doesn’t fix the problem of the yellow on the shoulders…I don’t know. Which do you prefer?

Anyways, I ended up choosing the boots because (whether dyed blue or white) there’s a leaf design on them that kind of shines, and looks a bit like a snowflake. Also the flurry cloak has leaves on it as well as snowflakes so it seemed to work.

Holly Princess

So I didn’t understand why they added yet ANOTHER white rabbit to the yule fest. And then I saw a close up picture of it. And I fell in love.

I mean, look how cute it is!!!!!

Okay, so there is an outfit here too, featuring this year’s new festival cosmetics: the shire holly set. I dyed it Rohan green to match the color of the holly leaves (instead of the lighter, mint-y color it came in).

I even did the warsteed to match!

Music in the Mountains

So I did this outfit in two colors – one in steel blue to match the original color of the cloak, and the other in dark red. Funny enough, the red outfit formed first, and adding the cloak was a last minute decision. Once I decided to add it though, I decided I also had to do another color scheme that matched the cloak’s original version. I honestly don’t know which I prefer. I love them both.

I really like the way the white/silver of the shoulders matches the white designs on the arms of the tunic. It goes well with the snowflake design on the cloak.

Additionally, I decided to pick the medium Nadhin gauntlets and boots, since they have a sort of quilt-like texture that matches the tunic. It’s kind of amazing that they’re from different sets, actually (Although I guess both armor sets that they come from are from Gondor?)

So yeah, that’s it! I just really like this outfit 🙂

Ice Flower

This outfit takes advantage of a couple different yule fest outfit sets, as well as the belegaer blue dye that’s only available during the festival! Belegaer blue happens to be a favorite of mine, but its hard to come by, so I decided to stock up this time around.

This outfit also served as a great opportunity to showcase last year’s yule gala warsteed set. It’s really detailed – it’s probably one of my favorites actually.

I mean it’s SOOO pretty. Anyways, this outfit has actually really grown on me. Probably cause of the color, but also just the way all the leaf and flower imagery fits together.

This write up is basically just a bunch of pictures cause I love this outfit. That’s it.

Winter Winds

Another outfit I had sitting around for a while – I actually have used it since my very first Yule Fest back in 2015.

The warsteed outfit is new – I finally used some saved up mithril coins to get the caparison of winter winds. Unfortunately, it has the same shading issues that the hunter warsteed outfit has. It’s not a huge deal; there are just a few rectangular patches that don’t reflect light properly.

Winter Huntress

Ahh…it’s been a while since I last posted. But with Yule Festival underway, I got to revisit a bunch of old outfits I’d been working on. So I figured I’d post some of the winter-themed ones (Also I tend to reserve outfit slots for unfinished/unposted outfits, and I was beginning to run out of new slots for new outfits…).

So this is just another sort of rugged look for my hunter. I wanted one that was more brown and neutral, with a “fur and leather” look to it.

Also I finally got the spotted warsteed skin to drop from warbands in East Rohan! I think this time it dropped off of the Warg Pack south of Harding – but in the past there doesn’t seem to be any pattern to which war band drops it most frequently. So sorry to anyone who was looking for advice

Also, I don’t know if this is happening to anyone else, but I’ve been noticing some shadow issues with the warsteed armor. There are rectangular patches where the in-game lighting isn’t reflected/absorbed properly, so they appear either super light, or – in the case of the warsteed of the hunter – just show up as black patches. You can see this on the front legs in the picture below:

Anyways. I did send a bug report in, but it’s probably not high on the priority list of things that need to be addressed lol.

Empress of Midnight Chill

I’m gonna be honest, I have no idea why I picked this particular title. All I know is that this is basically a counter-outfit to the Yule Queen one, similar to how I made the two complimentary sage outfits.

I don’t actually have a lot to say about the outfit. It’s basically just black and gold, whereas the other one was white and gold.

In more exciting news I finally got a new computer! I originally got a mac, but I wasn’t thrilled with it, and I couldn’t justify spending that much money on something I wasn’t crazy about so I returned it. Instead I got a PC – it’s actually a gaming PC technically, and it’s the most amazing piece of technology I’ve ever seen. I’m in love. I’m obsessed. Which is good, cause I still over a week left before I go back to school and I am bored out of my mind!!

Um….what else…I watched the new Witcher series! And honestly I really liked it. Don’t get me wrong, it has plenty of issues and some of the choices the show runners made seem excessive at best, gratuitous and unnecessary at worst. BUT, that being said, I think the core casting of Geralt, Yennefer, Ciri, and Dandelion (Jaskier) was extremely well done, and for me that’s what’s most important. I thought the chemistry between the characters was also really well established, except for that between Geralt and Ciri (due to lack of screen time). All in all, it made me want to reread the books, and I think it has a ton of potential for season 2.

I also watched some of HBO’s adaptation of His Dark Materials, so I think I might want to read those books now too. What else…watched the new Star Wars movie, still on the fence about whether I consider the new trilogy to be cannon…um…

I don’t know…I’m bored. But LOTRO looks really good with my new computer’s graphics card. I didn’t realize how much detail LOTRO had…I also didn’t realize how different colors look on modern screens. It’s interesting. Purple is a lot less blue now…

I’m still getting used to the lack of buttons on the laptop’s mouse. But all in all I’m glad I stuck with windows instead of switching to Apple. I love Apple for my phone and iPad and stuff, but I like the feeling of control Windows gives me when it comes to my computer. Also I just hate change and I’ve always used PCs.

So yeah. That’s about it. I’m in stream of consciousness mode right now.

Into Wildermore

This was actually the first vales outfit I made, but in retrospect I’m glad I held off on taking screenshots until my huntress got her warsteed.

This is one of those outfits that came together almost immediately. I really don’t have much to say…I’m in the middle of exams and my brain is fried. All I have left is calculus…that doesn’t require much brain power…right?

I’m also still trying to figure out the graphics on my computer…I swear I always turn the graphics all the way up, and it’ll look great in game, and then I’ll take screenshots and it’ll be grainy. I’m actually getting a new computer soon – the one I currently have still runs windows 2007 and is over 10 years old. The screen is being held together with paper clips and the battery is dying and it doesn’t recognize a lot of newer wifi systems…but it’s fine. It runs LOTRO, after all, right?
